Walkie Talkies Dublin by Choice Communications Ireland

Choice Communications have customers all over Ireland, particularly in our home county of Cork but we supply a great number of our Walkie Talkies in Dublin, so we thought we would explore a little more of that great city of culture.

History of Dublin

The city of Dublin is over 1000 years old, with many believing that it could in fact be over 2000 years old. With a storied history of Vikings, wars, merchants, saints and scholars, it has earned its place as the capital of Ireland but also the spiritual home of all Irish men and women, even those that have never set foot on its streets.

What does Dublin mean?

The name Dublin is believed to come from the Irish word Duiblinn (or “Black Pool”, referring to a dark tidal pool where the River Poddle entered the Liffey on the site of the Castle Gardens at the rear of Dublin Castle). Duiblinn is a derivative of Dyflin which was the name of a Viking settlement from 841 which was further upriver from where the modern city of Dublin is located. In fact, the Gaelic name for Dublin is Baile Atha Cliath, named after the original settlement in that area, called Áth Cliath which means “ford of hurdles”.

Population of Dublin

History lesson aside, Dublin has grown to be a busy metropolitan city with residents and visitors coming from every corner of the globe, to find work and to visit the many historical sights and sounds of this ancient and vibrant city. Every year, the city seems to grow a little bigger with the most recent figures stating that, as of April 2021, there are 1.43 million people who call Dublin their home. That’s 28.5% of the population of Ireland. No wonder their football teams are so successful!

And the growth isn’t slowing down, current estimates show that by 2036, Dublin will have 1.8 million residents. What is also interesting, is that Greater Dublin has a very young populous, with the average age currently 36 years old, which undoubtably adds to its energetic and vibrant social scene.

Business

Dublin has enjoyed a massive growth in industry, particularly within Technology. We have all heard of Silicon Valley in San Francisco, but we also have Dublin’s Silicon Docks where the likes of Google, Meta (Facebook), Airbnb, Twitter and our own County Tipperary Collison brothers at Stripe, (which is online payment processing software), have high-tech offices. We supply the security companies, maintenance teams, and logistic departments of these Global giants with walkie talkies in Dublin.

Construction in Dublin

As the demand grows for more office space for these global companies, so does the demand for more staff, which in turn increases the demand on local housing and transport infrastructure. All of which has created a construction boom in the Greater Dublin area. On any given day, two dozen cranes can be seen over the skyline of Dublin. There is also talk of foreign investors, having seen the housing boom in Dublin, which has no sign of letting up, buying up entire housing developments. Safe in the knowledge that the demand for high quality housing within a 30 minute commute of the capital, will be there for decades to come. Thinking of getting two way radios, then please read our Walkie Talkie Construction Buying Guide.

Hospitality

Part of what makes Dublin such an amazing city, is its social scene. With bars, cafes, restaurants, theatres, concerts and nightclubs springing up all the time. Guinness is the blood that runs through the veins of Dublin, but there is a fair amount of whiskey, gin, and prosecco too! This love for life and laughter brings the tourists flocking from all corners of the globe, many of whom claim Irish descent. I once heard it said, that because of the Irish diaspora, if every person of Irish heritage returned home, the island would be flooded six times over. Temple Bar is always buzzing with activity and live music can be found in many of the popular haunts. We supply lots of restaurants, bars and more within the hospitality industry with walkie talkies Dublin, read our Hospitality Guide for more information.

Event Walkie Talkies DublinEvents

Ireland also attracts lots of events, such as Six Nations Rugby matches at the Aviva Stadium, or Lansdowne Road as it will forever be known. All Ireland Finals at Croke Park with its legendary Hill 16, where GAA fans flock to hopefully see their County take home the Sam Maguire. If it’s live music you like, then the 3Arena has seen all the greats down the years, from Bob Dylan to Justin Bieber and everything in between. And they were always sure to get a huge reception from the music loving Irish fans.

And 2022 will be no different for fans of live music. With the first concerts after 2 years of Covid-19 finally taking place, thousands of fans have bought tickets to see the legend (depending on your musical tastes) that is Garth Brooks, who is set to play an unbelievable 5 dates in September 2022 at Croke Park. He isn’t my cup of tea, but for many, this is the peak of live entertainment. However, if you haven’t booked your Bed and Breakfast for the night already, it looks like someone will have to stay sober in order to drive home! There isn’t an empty bed available anywhere for those 5 dates.

Dublin is clearly an exciting and diverse metropolitan city with a long storied history and clearly a bright future ahead, and Choice Communications Ireland are delighted that we have worked with companies in every sector in Dublin for over 20 years, and we hope to continue to expand in the years to come.
